SharePoint Business Intelligence Features

SharePoint Business Intelligence provides various tools and features to process data and represents them in a meaningful way which helps in decision making. SharePoint 2007 allows processing data which in both internal (in the SharePoint server) and external (SAP, Oracle etc).


The following are the features provided by SharePoint 2007 Business intelligence to process data.


Report Center – Business Intelligence site, acts a centralized site to store BI widgets like Dashboards, KPIs, Excel sheets etc.

Excel Services – Allows us to publish Excel sheets in SharePoint and provide versioning (Check In/ Check Out) to track changes to the sheet.

Excel Web Services – Web service, which exposes API’s to work with the data in the published excel workbooks.  Allows accessing and modifying data in the published workbooks through code.

Business Data Catalog – Allows fetching data from various external systems and databases like SAP, Siebel, Oracle etc

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) – Visual representation of targets and milestones for a particular parameter, displays progress using symbols and colors.

Filter Web Parts – Allows the user to view the data in various dimensions, by filtering the data on a specific parameter or time period to perform deeper analysis.

Dashboards - Web page template, used to consolidate other BI widgets like charts, KPI’s etc
